Considering you're stupid enough to ask I'd say YES in your case

You don't want to end up as a waiter do you?

          Reforming Hobo

I would suggest trying to stream and/or make entertainment/educational videos if you wanna go the safe way, if that's not what you want to do going pro is possible for you but you have to find a team that is compatible with you and you HAVE to win a major tournament in order to make your name heard.

            edit: some spelling errors.

If you're good enough to cruise to 7k mmr while getting your degree, you can chase your dream for sure. Otherwise just forget it because you're not good or smart enough to take the risk

just study while playing and if u get on a good team and start making $$$ u can just put ur studies on hold

EE started at like 21-22, so its never too late. though its not an easy thing to go pro, competititon is insane.

go pro! 18 is nothing, and you can always switch -dont listen to those who say otherwise, they just never had a rampage in divine bracket

If i was you I will bury the dream about being pro since education far more important. But related to the question the answer is not too late, Le Bron reaches his peak of being pro with Navi and he was 28 that time

playing computer games should never be a PASSION. Go study and contribute to society in a better way. any games should only be your entertainment instead of a "passion". We human doesnt need more people to work as entertainer at this moment because there are already too many entertainer ( most of them failed and VERY FEW of those managed to climb to the top just for a few moment before their popularity gone) while poverty and resources are our main concern. I'm sure you know what I meant

no-one should ever go all-in on becoming a pro player. stream/coach/make videos etc. and the opportunities will come if you are good enough and if they don't you will at least be getting an income from all the hours you've put in.

being a professional sportsman is as much about your brand and sponsorship as being a great player. look at people like waga and purge - never made it as a professional but they play dota for a living (and i'm guessing a fairly comfortable living!)

theres so many players that sat in top 50 leaderboards for more than 3 years like mage that never landed a relevant t1 team. they have way more experience than you, and are better players as well
chances are ure never gonna be a pro player and ure never gonna be a popular twitch streamer either, so go to school

The are scared because you can actually succeed! Look at you smurf in 10 months you will be +3000 mmr! Go for it, dont let the retards ruin your life

Keep investing in Dota but Focus primarily in studying something you like - if its meant to be, it will happen.

How many players/casters etc. travel between each major/minor? More or less than 100?

                                                                    mynhauzen

A friend of mine is one of the best pro players in Doom 3 in its history. Dude wasted 20 years of his life and made around $200K on it. Now he's a casual player making nearly no money. Not traveling. Not doing anything for society.

I dropped my CS.Go career and making around $170K annually doing work I don't really enjoy, but it allows me to do what ever I want with my life outside of a video game. I travel when I want (going to Europe in a week), have an actual pension savings, savings on a house. Gaming career is a stupid decision. 0.00001% of people are making money on it, and the rest are just wasting their energy. Yes, I can get fired, etc., but so can pro players. I know ~10 amazing players who dropped out of their schools just for a dream and NONE of them became pro with a pretty decent talent. Only that dude did, and he is now still ilving with his mother earning nothing and have no savings cause he never took any finance classes or got any decent degree (ie have no idea how to save). Please be careful with your choices. It will impact you, your future wife, kids, and their kids. I don't think those 25+ pro players actually enjoy 10 hours of dota every day just for a chance to get to those tourneys.

Picking a pro-gamer career is picking an early game hero. Out of top 300 earning pro gamers, maybe 100 are related to dota. Out of them, maybe 30 actually made more than an AVERAGE doctor. They are TOP highest ranked players making a bit more than an average doctor. You'll never be one of them. Lets face it. Even if you get to Divine (and I have several friends there) and play vs pro players at some point, they won't notice you. Do you think Miracle writes down names of people who are good in his pubs? Even if you win 10 times with a good score in a pub, you still need a decent team with connections with a sponsor. It has nothing to do with a dota talent. On the top of it, you need a lot of luck to win in tournaments. Even with a perfect team and the best talent, you might lose cause of 1-2 silly errors of another player. Pick a late game hero. Go and do something that isn't fun. Your late game will be much better.

                                                                              Овај коментар је измењен

go learn how success works first then try again

                                                                                Rocket

I'd be much more interested in hiring someone who had had the balls and individualism to try and make it as a pro-gamer than some sheep who meekly stayed in college and just studied.

Never do a job/career that you don't enjoy if you can avoid it. Just be aware that choices have consequences and do your best to keep your options open.

                                                                                  ETd

Remember, in the last months before the ranked update, picking up 8K pubstars was considered a risk. For some like Miracle, it worked out, for many others it didn't. Also, it'll be very difficult to convince even a tier 3 team to take a chance on a 6K. Maybe you could try to get into a low tier 3, or tier 4 squad? But at that point, many of those players are friends and are in it as friends, so it'd be hard to break into a team in that tier as well. Long story short, you're gonna need a group of friends who you could team up with, as your starting point.
Don't put all your eggs into one basket. I suggest you still go to school, and get whatever games you can in between studying. If you're still able to steadily climb the leaderboards, then maybe you could consider it. For now, ill-advised.

                                                                                    Eddie

                                                                                        La Joya

The problem about being a pubstar and then invited to be a pro is the whole pro scene thing are totally different with pub matches. Maybe you are godlike in solo mmr but pro scene needs much harder and a lot of team work, a guy who not used to play as a team will having really hard time to do that. Well in there are some exceptions like Miracle and Iceberg, but we also have Badman or InYourDream who still struggling to make impacts in the pro scene. You will adjusting hard once you enter it.

Right now i would say you are just looking for the path into the pro zone. Don’t close other paths like school first, you’re NOT in the pro-zone yet.

If you’re pro level then you’ll be like the LeBron James of Amateur tournaments right? And then better teams will begin to notice you. If you get crapped on every other game you should be self aware enough to realize there is no long term success to be had.

If you truly thought and wanted to go pro then you will do it, regardless of what anyone says or thinks.

if i wanted to solve a maths problem, i wouldn't ask a 10 year old, i'd ask my college professor.
