Yeah i'm sure it reflects damage after all reductions. It does well against slow projectiles like sm's and necro's 1st skills
nyx is already strong, so his talents don't need to be strong.
lich, for example, loses effectiveness the longer the game goes, so they added 150 dmg as a talent so lich can have some late game presence.
it's all about balance.
I may be mistaken, but pure damage isnt dampened by magic resistance.
I may be talkin out of my ass here, still I think it's that way.
Correct me if I am wrong :)
Here how it works:
say, Lina hits carapaced Nyx with 1000 laguna magic damage. Nyx's natural magic resistance lowers the damage to 750, then carapace returns this 750 damage as pure damage back to Lina. And if Nyx has got those 12% magic resist, then his carapace receives some 680 damage (after his natural+talent magic resist) and returns this 680 as pure damage
@Blurrybob I think the way you explained it is correct, it should in fact be negative for carapace itself, but makes Nyx more resistent towards magical damage overall, in those situations where carapace is on cd or he can't use it. Axe needs blink and blademail to call and reflect the physical damage he takes by the forced hits, but for this reason do you think vanguard is a bad item for him overall? I don't think so, yet it reduces the physical damage Axe takes when he calls and in general.
My favorite is carapace then hit centaur for that dank return stun
If he has return aura tho will u stun cent or the hero u attacked?
but with aghs laguna blade is pure dmg so it won't get reduced by magic resit and it would return the full amount.
The reason nyx's thing works that way returning as pure is cus normal spells are already reduced by his resistance so it would be like double dipping to reduce it again by attackers resistance.
Hero talents can't be taken in a vacuum though obviously. I mean it pisses me off cm has 12% magic resist at level 10 while troll's level 25 is only 20%. I wish it were 30 or more, then I might take it over whirling axes cd.
Finally someone noticed my game of words there! Yay! Anyway, blademail's mechanism is totally different from carapace's. Bm returns damage BEFORE all reductions - you can be totally immune to damage (omni ult or ember fireshield) but bm always returns damage. Say, dazzle has 10 hp, he casts grave on himself and activates bm. Then Lina hits him with 1000 damage laguna. Dazzle returns all 1000 damage as its original form, but doesn't die, but Lina herself may die of this returned damage. It doesn't matter if dazzle casts grave - the bottom line is - bm returns damage in its original form BEFORE all reductions. So it's a very good item for high-armor and/or high-magic-resist heroes.
It would be nice if they changed it to reflect damage before reductions but as the same damage type, just so that its consistent with the way blademail and dispersion work.
Blademail also reflects dmg as the original type. So it's comparing apples to oranges. It's probably cus blademail use to return as magic dmg, then they changed it, carapace is just an older feature and why change what's not broke? Really doesn't make a ton of difference.
For blade mail though it's very interesting cus if axe or lc or whomever keeps killing your carry have them build ac or shivas and they take a ton less damage. For magic nukers get bkb then nuke away.

Why the hell Nyx has a talent tree branch which gives him 12% magic resistance? It's like countering his own skill - carapice. Carapice reflects damage after all reductions as pure damage - so why intentionally lower damage to self? Ok, I know that it could be a very good branch for many other heroes, but not for Nyx you know. Despite Being a very good hero, Nyx's talent tree really makes me disappointed. 40 ms on 25lvl? Bane has 100 ms there.
