I haven't seen anything officially disclosed by valve, but its fairly apparent that anytime you change the membership of your team your team rating gets reset and it takes the 3 games before it is published again. This is why some teams have played alot of games but have a 0 rating on Dotabuff, because they have switched their team composition in the last three games. It would also appear that at least the initial rating of the team is based in part on the MMR of the individual members, which explains why some teams have a high/low rating after just 3 games. How does team gain their rankings?
Some team have 0 ranking but 15 games played.
Meanwhile some have 3 games played with rankingscore
