TI3 Teams Record vs each other recently in General Discussion
Relentless

Who is going into The International strong?

These are the scores for the "recent games" of each team vs the other TI3 teams according to joindota. Basically its all games from the past 2 months or less.

I counted games, not series. All teams have a stable roster for this period as per TI3 rules, although some had standins for a few games. Teams are listed in order of their joindota ranking. This reflects whether their wins and losses were against the top of the TI teams or the bottom...and to some extent their earlier records. Win-Loss does not exactly even out because some teams played more games recently than others and joindota took most recent games by number instead of by date.

    Navi 21-11
    LGD.CN 22-13
    Alliance 15-6
    IG 14-9
    DK 11-14
    TongFu 17-11
    Mouz 9-15
    Orange 4-7
    Liquid 10-8
    Fnatic.EU 8-8
    Virtus.Pro 9-13
    Zenith 6-12
    LGD.int 12-14
    MUFC 1-8
    Rattlesnake 5-8
    Quantic 2-6
    Dignitas 6-18

There are some weaker teams, but there is a lot of parity as well this year. I think we will see lot of close games, some comeback wins, and hard fought victories. I think that it is possible for any of 12 teams to end up in the top 4.

I'm sure Tobiwan will be watching these teams "very very closely".

So alliance is leading with W/L. But this doesn't show much since the number of games is not that much. but still pretty informatiove

          Vaikiss`742.

i highly doubt that dignitas/tl/fnatic/vp/tongfu has chances of ending up in top 4

                  Tongfu, past 2 months is

                  1-2 vs LGD.cn
                  4-3 vs DK
                  1-1 vs IG
                  1-2 vs Navi
                  3-1 vs Orange
                  3-1 vs LGD int
                  2-0 vs Zenith
                  0-1 vs Rsnake
                  2-0 vs MUFC

I think Vaikiss, you have not seen their recent performances vs TI3 invited teams, because based on recent games Tongfu might even be the #1 eastern team. LGD might be better, but its very close. I think Tongfu is the most talented eastern team. They have the ability to take on the top western teams and play a more diverse, more chaotic style and I really don't see any of the other eastern teams prepared to step up and deliver that yet. We will see if their boot camp can catch up the rest of the east...but right now I think Tongfu is the only team not lagging behind, seeming unprepared to deal with the top western teams.

Liquid, VP, and Fnatic are going into this very strong. I think DK and IG are going to choke...they have a lot to prove in the group stages. I think DK has peaked and their peak is not up to the level of competition this time. I think IG has slacked off, now has too small a hero pool, and won't be able to get their gameplay stabilized in time to perform well at TI3.

                  IG most recent series...
                  http://www.joindota.com/en/matches/67713-invictus-gaming-vs-rising-stars
Got stomped on 0-2 to RisingStars who didn't even make the finals of the eastern qualifier. IG still is having a lot of problems.

Mouz is also really coming together. They are getting better and better over the last two months and have been playing so many games against Navi and Alliance. Playing the best has really sharpened their skills.

yeah TongFu is obv a top contender. like the only teams with 0 chance are dignitas, MUFC, RS, lgd.int, fnatic and maybe quantic

                    Vaikiss`742.

i saw their game vs rattlesnake and dk quite some time ago and that was such a pathetic play from them

                      Hassan

yep some of their games have been really bad. they are not that stable but when they play good they can take down all teams

                        BDD

I have never seen the play styles of Western teams versus the eastern teams. That being said how does it measure up? I was shocked by the western and eastern qualifiers by the stark differences between play styles (east being farming while west are ultra aggressive). The amount of long drawn out games on east compared to west was mad!

I am going to watch some east v west games when I go home but before I do, how do you all think the styles go up against one another? Do they stick to the styles they implemented against themselves during the qualifiers or do they try and play them at their own game?

                          Relentless

The eastern teams have over the last two years developed strategies that focused on maximizes efficiency in farming and slow siegeing towers when you had a large advantage. The rule of thumb for the east was break the base only when you have a 10k gold lead, agies, mech, and pipe.

Last year that was the best way to play dota because some of the strongest ganking heroes [1] were not in the pool [2] had not received more recent buffs [3] had not been "solved" for how to put them into lineups.

Over the past year eastern teams developed a few more variations on defensive, deficiency based strategies. Meanwhile the western teams broke a lot of new ground on aggressive, higher risk, more powerful mid game strategies. The massive success of these strategies vs the eastern ones is highlighted in Alliance and Navi trips to China where they destroyed everyone.

In particular the east spent almost no attention on wisp, while 4 or 5 western teams have excellent wisp play with many months of practice on the hero already. Since the G-1 the eastern teams have been playing catch-up...but the fact is there are new western pocket strats the east has not even seen yet. I do not believe they will have enough time to adjust during the group stage.

Aggressive play is going to dominate TI3, in part because various nerfs and buffs and new heroes have set the stage for it. Because the west has been playing that way for months already they are at a big advantage going into The International.

Watch this Liquid vs IG game to see what happened in dramatic, exciting fashion.

                            BDD

Yeah I will definitely watch that game when I get home from work. I was just shocked because I had been watching western tournaments for a while (the defense, all stars etc) and thought I understood a lot of how professional DOTA was played. I got 20/30 for the western predictions and was pretty happy with that because got all the picks, bans etc.

When I did the eastern I assumed it would be similar enough but man oh man I was wrong. 8/30 for eastern qualifier predictions because there was barely any need to ban IO and most picked was close call between shadow demon and visage (wtf!).

That's why I can't wait to see how the two different play styles clash and to see if one team (if any) yield their strategy in favor of another counter strategy.

                              Safe Base

Tongfu is a "dark horse", probably not going to win it but would be a good bet for easy rares in the group stages. They won't have a lot of fanboy bets on d2lounge

                                Vaikiss`742.

inb4 they get raped by all eu teams
