people who stacked alot will have a higher MM at the start BUT it will balance out when they play more games. I didnt stack alot so I was undervalued when I started playing so I was given a ton of easy matches.(ignore my matches a day ago that was a drunken fail:P)
What exactly do you mean with "5k+ MMR"?
There is no MMR which includes both solo and stacked matches. The five types of ratings currently in DotA2 are
- Solo ranked
- Party ranked
- Team rating (one for each specific team)
- Solo unranked (hidden)
- Party unranked (hidden)
But maybe I have not understood your question.
I mean a solo rating of 5k or more.
Solo ranked is basically a combination of:
Solo ranked
Solo unranked before december 2013
Party unranked before december 2013
edit: thanks sampson for making it clear
@Socram
prior to the ranked MM patch you MM was 1 value and when the ranked patch hit they split BUT started from the same starting point
for example
player A had a hidden 4k MM then whene the new system came out they won 10 solo games and lost 10 group games his MM ends at like 4.2k solo and 3.8k group
player B had a hidden 2k MM then whene the new system came out they won 10 solo games and won 8 group games his MM ends at like 2.2k solo and 2.1k group
*note numbers are made up but that is the general idea*
Personally I think valve made a big mistake when they based solo ranked on your former party unranked instead of making everyone start at a set value. It's just not solo ranked in any way when you stacked in 90% of your games prior to the changes.
Can anyone link a source to the statement that the starting point is based off the pre-patch MMR values? I would have expected that every player starts at the same value with a high uncertainty to it. The blog post (http://de.dota2.com/2013/12/matchmaking-2/) only says "New accounts and those playing in Ranked Matchmaking for the first time have high uncertainty", but nothing about the initial value.
@KAISLE
they did the right thing, putting pro level players against 2k MM players would be a disastrous stompfest. Sure there will be the person who plays 10 solo ranked matches then stops to avoid getting his true MM but honestly who cares about them.
@親和性 ' FameGG.com
Says you stacked as soon as this month.
@ Sam
I am afraid any sort or degree of stacking counts.
@Sampson
Sure it would be a stompfest but not more of a stompfest than when you create a new smurf and it takes 5 games or so for matchmaking to adjust. How did pro players get their ratings in the first place?
@Kaisle
Friend list is bugged on Dotabuff.
If you frequently get matched with the same people then Dotabuff will list them as your friends.
@ KAISLE
no smurf accounts do not adjust properly they overvalue. They do this to avoid players ruining the game for their biggest group of players(the noobs)
Soon my smurf (http://dotabuff.com/players/126943640) will reach level 13 and will probably have 5k unless I really screw up after. I still play on page 1-10 even with ranked matches going on. Even this acc has like 4.6k with some serious trolling and 100+ abandons.
@ 親和性 ' FameGG.com
Something tells me you are lying. Just had to pull out 1 page of your match history and I found at least 10 consecutive games where you were 'matched' with the same player (funny enough always on ur own team).
Page in ur match history: http://dotabuff.com/players/93256974/matches?page=67

This account is mainly solo queue. Sometimes I play duo with my IRL friend on this account.
That player is my IRL friend who has 4k MMR, surely he carried me to victory.
Fair enough but im looking for solo queue only without any exceptions.
Who knows, those matches are long ago, your friend might have had higher hidden mmr than you at the time you stacked with him.
Well if you stacked with a new player you also had a pretty big chance of getting matched against new players so easy win for you.
The solo que MMR is exclusively games without stacking AND played against stacks. The MMR for when you solo is tracked separately and not just for ranked. It has been this way most of the year. Also I know some people have solo que MMR over 6k.
"most of the time"
you missed the point of the thread completely
5k MM is not some mythical creature it isnt all that rare BUT the OP was looking for if anyone got 5k without stacking at all
Here's the thing.
Say you make a new account and play 150 games you will be assigned an rating that is hidden. Any ranked games you play from there will go as either solo or party depending on what you do.
If you want a bigger rating...
Tryhard stack for 150 games then queue 10 solo games or solo queue playing a popular stomper ( Slark, Ursa <anymidhero> ) and it should sit your rating pretty high provided you aren't trashy.
The newer the account the better the chance of a higher rating. My suggestion to you (If an assigned number means all that much to you) is to stack for 150 games and only play solo queue mid as it increases your chances of being able to carry your game.
Pseudo Algorithm for Ranked.
IF (SoloRank > 5000)
Come back to the forum and shit talk people of lesser rank;
ELSE
Come back to the forum and complain about the broken MMR system;

Well after my first game, I was 4330, after 7 loses and 3 wins, I got 4365.
I don't know how they do it, because much of the loses weren't my fault.
I'm close to 5k solo, and I very very rarely stack. Out of my 2000games maybe 250 of them are stack, and that is not 5man maybe 2-3man.
So yea, going 5k + solo isnt impossible, I got a guy in my friendlist who started at 4800 and now hes at 5,5k. Sure he picks slark most of the times but you do what you gotta do.
its possible but u need around 54%wr after ~700wins or some super high % on smurf my other solo acc was 48xx after 1 calibraiton game with 53.2x% after 750wins I could end up 53xx if i went 10/0 in calibraiton games and i cant even recall last game where i played well
I've grouped with friends, I've maybe "stacked" (with good players) less than 5 times in all of dota 2 and I'm at 5k. Statistically though it seems I'll stagnate around 5200 though.
bump, still looking for people above 5k mmr who havent stacked a single game. i want to know its possible. otherwise im gonna assume stacking is the only way.
http://dotabuff.com/players/83680210 A decent example of a solo 5.5K rating.
http://dotabuff.com/players/103418398 Very good player plays about 50/50 solo/stack also about 5.5K rating.
http://dotabuff.com/players/126351580 Plays about 90% solo queue has a 5.7K rating.
Its totally possible to get an equal or higher winrate but given the majority of poor players out there I would find it annoying to have solo queued every one of my 4k+ games.
Why not do both?

Everyone I know above 5k mmr are heavy stackers or have stacked at one point or another to boost their rating.
Can anyone honestly say that they are above 5k and havent stacked once?
I am curious, cause there seems to be a bigger correlation between mmr and amount of games in which u have stacked, than between mmr and ur actual skill level.
Theoretically speaking, if you traditionally stacked a lot to boost your rating, your solo mmr would be dropping a lot since the last patch when party and solo queue were seperated but if every other player at the highest mmr have done the same thing and are equally bad you should remain relatively stable (unless some solo players actually manage to break into high mmr themselves, which is why i am asking).
