Team Ranked MM in General Discussion
Alyosha

So my friend (Padre) has 2.8k team mmr. I played almost of my team games with him and I got 3.7k mmr
He had his mmr first but that seems like a massive unacounted for difference.
How did valve get this 0.0

ok first thx for reading and taking the time to be a jerk...
That has nothing to do with this post I don't know if you can't read or are just arrogant

i believe in this case those games that he played without you at the beginning (if i understood you right) played a major impact.
Once he got estimated 2.8+ MMR (before playing without, already in the internal hidden rating) it stayed pretty much the same

anyway that's my wild guess Albino

yea you probably started out at 3.5k with ur account and he probably played more and was 2.7k or something. Thus even with similar skill level you have more than him. Sucks for people with 1000+ games. Forces people to just make new accounts.

So when we play Team MMR together do we get put against 2.8k people (he's the party leader) or 3.7k or a mix?

              SalaciousCrome

It will be combined. It makes an effort to pair people with an equal 5 v 5 rating.

e.g. Both side collectively have the same MMR as the other or close.

Padre is bad. Suggest him to stop playing pudge...

He's a strong player he just rages a lot...

                      Relentless

I keep trying to explain, but people seem to believe "Valve wouldn't do that"....

Valve regularly placed MMR ranges of 1k points or more in a match. They will try to match the follow criteria.

1.The teams are balanced. (Each team has a 50% chance to win.)
2.The discrepancy in skill between the most and least skilled player in the match is minimized. This is related to team balance, but not the same thing.
3.The discrepancy between experience (measured by the number of games played) between the least experienced player and the most experienced player is minimized. More on this below.
4.The highest skill Radiant player should be close to the same skill as the highest skill Dire player.
5.Each team contains about the same number of parties. For example, the matchmaker tries to avoid matching a party of 5 against 5 individual players.
6.Players’ language preferences contains a common language. Lack of a common language among teammates’ language preferences is strongly avoided. Lack of a common language across the whole match is also avoided, but less strongly.
7.Wait times shouldn’t be too long.

However, Valve admits that "The matchmaker seldom achieves all of those goals". Instead they go for as many of the 7 so the "matchmaker assigns a quality score for each of the criteria above and then takes a weighted average. When the overall quality score exceeds a threshold, the match is considered “good enough” and the match is formed".

I don't know what "good enough" really means to them. Is it 5 of the 7 being sort of close? From my experience they seem to be most concerned with goal #7 the que time. You can force the matching system to consider other goals at a higher priority by cancelling the que before that blue search range extends out too far.

To directly answer your question. You win a lot of games when he is not with you. And he loses a lot of games when you are not together. You have won about 20 more games without him AND he has lost 20 games without you.

                        Everyone loves Chibi

Stop playing with shitty players if you want to improve or win more. Relentless told you nicely, you should take his advice. If you think your friend is good, then it's something very wrong here. Either he is really better then his rating indicates (which i really doubt, especially because his low KDA's and lots of games played with no improve) or you're a lot worse then your rating indicates. No way a guy with 2.8k mmr can be good in estimation of a 3.7k mmr player.
