Had a game last night with the ultimate pain in the ass team.
BS. Spirit Breaker. Phoenix. Nature's. And I think the 5th was Abaddon. Couldn't hardly do squat without getting nuked in some form or another.
stuff like nort silence, ministuns (coldsnap, battery), delayed stuns like dazzle old poison, wreck him big time.
Phoenix can be a truly difficult hero to face. He is an excellent solo offlane hero now.
If Phoenix wards properly and gets dive at level 1 it really is not possible for any single support to zone him out. The only way two supports can threaten him is if they have two ways to slow/stun him and coordinate properly. This means Phoenix WILL be getting levels unless you stand there zoning with two supports and ruin your xp.
You can dodge the fire spirit harass but creeps can't. This means Phoenix WILL be taking some cs. It's almost as hard to deny as ion shell spam. Also your pull creeps can't dodge so Phoenix not only can easily leech xp from your pulls but is very likely to take the lasthits too (again assuming he warded properly to know when to cast the spirits).
This gives Phoenix the power to offlane even against pro level players. It is easy to keep up fire spirit spam with just tangoes to heal the hp loss and there is really no way to close on Phoenix and kill it if he can see you because dive is too powerful an escape.
Now for many players you are probably losing because you are just bad and not dodging poorly cast fire spirits. But if that's not the problem and you really are good at dota and facing a highly skilled Phoenix you can still win. The way to combat this is expensive and requires skill. To ensure you can beat Phoenix you need too...
Step 1: Anticipate the lane
Get there early so you know where he wards. Have sentries purchased and deward. He needs vision so he can cast dive in time to avoid the first stun. If you can get close enough you can cancel dive with a stun and kill him.
Step 2: Send enough to kill him.
One support is not enough. You must have one slow/or stun to attack him and a 2nd stun ready to cancel dive or you can't kill him.
If you send only one a good Phoenix will dive away after the first stun, heal up and keep laning like you don't exist. One support cannot man-up and fight the Phoenix. Level 2 Fire Spirits can do up to 560 magic dmg and you really won't be able to dodge them while also trying to attack him. He will just kill a single support hero. Just as single support can't fight a dark seer and dies to ion shell... send 2 supports.
Step 3: Admit you failed.
If you failed to deward for whatever reason...you will have to smoke two supports to kill him. If you don't use smoke then you will waste your time.
Of course before all of this complication the first step is: just dodge the fire spirits. Its not hard to do if you are just trying to lasthit and deny creeps. It won't slow the Phoenix farm and leveling down but you should not die either.

Are you really going to mistake you out-skilling a player for the what the heroes can actually do? Do you NEVER face people who are nearly equal to you in clicking skill? I know you face some better than you... why pretend you don't?
You are smarter than this. Don't confuse your personal skill vs random pub for a real hero matchup. You know full well that if you and the Phoenix switched places suddenly slark would have no chance. Of course you massively failed the ONE time you attempted Phoenix but if you practiced it hundreds of games like you did Slark you would be just as dominant.
lolwat. phoenix is like turkey for breakfast dude. how do you even get rekt by that shitty hero? the only decent spell it has is the laser shit and the att slow shit. low mana pool gets rekt by emp ez.
The problem with Phoenix offlane is not that he will kill u or rape u out of the lane. He will just make u lose a lot of lh, because of AS slow from spirits. Your safe lane will have 50-60lh & enemy 30-40. That's what makes Phoenix such a good offlaner - he destroys carries farm. People who say he is shit don't know hero at all...
He is not shit just requires specific counters, some of which i mentioned above. He is hardly godlike offlaner once met with correct counter.
What truly makes him a strong hero is his team fight presence and absolutely beastly ultimate.
