168. 1 day unmuted, and 168 again. Im permamuted for 2 month right now. Chatwheel clearly needs some offensive language.
The chatwheel needs a lot more messages so muted people have a chance to communicate lol there isnt enough
Being muted for 168 hours takes about 3-4 mutes of lesser time (24-48 etc) in a 3 week period.
After 3 weeks without punishment, you are reset.
The issue with muting is that people use communication abuse for players for any reason. I've been muted justly for flaming. I have also been muted for "talking to much" or disagreeing with my team, regardless of how polite I am.
The system is absolutely flawed and should not exist. Players have the power to mute each other, they dont need an automated system doing it for them. All the stats that valve show about players and being muted are highly suspect. They don't reflect discipline leading to better behavior. They lead to players refusing to communicate at all, making new accounts, or playing other games.

Valve took the shortcut to deal with unpolite people, without consider that actually flame and disagreeing teammate is also part of the communication itself.
On the other hand, people tend to forget that flaming can also be considerate as a constructive criticsm.
I got muted for 24 hours once, the mute before this one infact, for having music in the background like wtf just mute me ingame dont report...
You must be really foul-mouthed to get muted. I've played over 3000 games and I've only been muted once (72 hours), and I'm pretty sure that was because I was flaming a 4-stack I was teamed with.
No, it just depends on who is willing to report you, and how many reports over several games you get.
It's actually a contradictory system, much like jail, asylums, LIFE, etc.
When you're muted, you can barely communicate, you have 3 pings every 10 seconds or so, you can't sketch on the mini-map at all, limited phrases (6) per game unless you want to/are able to change chat wheel multiple times in one game like a pro.
Then when you can't talk and your allies get pissed at you for absurd reasons, it makes the person more inclined to troll/not do their best.
Play more Meepo, Krobelus and Pudge. Problem solved. All i see is a good player "in making". ;)

Can't do anything about it though, I was so mad at this Zeus who was literally said in the beginning of the game "I play for kills not wins"
