Well, first off all. 6 years of dota and you still claim Vanguard is a bad item. You named Spectre and Slardar also, which is the best and most common item to get in higher level play.
First you have to realize and accept that you suck, then you have to try to be better.
There a lot of thing you can improve in dota.... always.
Im not a very skilled player myself, but im not playing dota for more than year and half i think...
But i do get where i make mistakes and im willing to improve, so in a game loss, i often (becouse i rarely play more than 1 game a day) think about what went wrong and what to improve on. That is the first step. See what u lack.
For ex. I tend to play a lot of carry back then, so i was improving on: lasthitting and denying, avoid unesesery harrasment in lane, using all the time and space enemy gives to you for farming, i mean ALL of it, picking good fights or not (let ur retard team die :D ), item choises (very important - when to go greedy and when not to) and SO ON...
There are many many improvements for supports on for ex, warding, timing, tp-saving when to and when not to......
Maybe mid is the lane that has the most impact nowadays so, as a really important lane it is not as simple as just killing creeps and so on..
SO don't be like: OMG I HAVE NOTHING TO IMPROVE ON, AND I'M WILLING TO IDK HOW - NO.
If you want to improve, many would say STUDY the game.. ;)
Don't think I'm the one to say, with my 3k MMR, but I think few things that could be applied to fighting games work for the most of video games.
There are feel and execution. First you'll get with a time going, second must be trained.
For example, you don't play characters with exceptional presence on your pub level, therefore don't affect game too much, even if we assume you can play effectively on higher level.
3.5k MMR is a low level. Very low. I know. On such level pro player can carry whole team with right-click CM.
So let me ask you a few questions:
1) Do you have 100% lasthit on any lane with any character?
2) Do you have 100% deny on any lane with any character?
3) Can you block any creep camp without making it easily dewardable? Do you do this in your every game with a support/offlaner?
4) Can you pull and doublepull creep waves without a chance of fail?
5) Can you pull off any wombo-combo without a mistake (Ember's fist+bolo, SK's Epicentre>blink>Discord>Burrowstrike, and so on)?
6) Do you know every tree that can be useful for you and every passage in the wood?
These a few of things anyone can improve by training. Want to be better? Have years of DotA experience? Work on your execution, because you'll never be good enough to say yours is fine.

If you think you're good you won't improve.
