A buddy of mine does that. (Like 2 levels of quas, and rest in wex/exort)..
It works well :3 but then again... thats like in 3k scrub bracket ._. so I guess anything would work.
You would need a super CC team. In the first place a majority of Invoker's strength comes from his huge arsenal of CC.
I did wexort once, never again for I couldn't use most of my stuns, except for the disarm in my Dblast.
wex exort is pretty bad, exort wex on the other hand is damn good for dealing damage. you can even go exort wex alacrity, that's similar to drow ranger, but instead of silence, you get a meteor (or what ever spell you find usefull to prepare)

Yeah I know it's generally considered bad and for a good reason and I haven't tried it but is there the possibility that it would work at all? Whether by building things like Rod of Atos or having a super CC heavy team, your damage output would be huge. One point of Quas would probably be necessary for lane regen/cold snap early on/availability of other spells.
And maths people, would it be better to keep your orbs on Wex or Exort or a mix to maximise DPS?
