By bad positioning do you mean running in like some sort of crazy person?

Probably something like that. I also meant more general stuff: bad initiation and counter-initiation, etc. Probably your team didn't pay enough attention to sniper and he managed to just shoot you all. His dps is incredibly high, and you cant affor ignoring him even when hes downfarmed

in pubs you are best off going shadow blade because it lets you control the game and punishes the enemy for their inevitable shitty positioning. Also you may want to consider going bkb over manta because they have es and nyx, but thats kinda debatable i guess

also try to get more cs and die less i suppose

keep in mind that if your lane looks shitty you can go jungle and have the support sap xp

Ur gpm is very low, farm moar creeps, prioritize lane creeps if it is safe. The only time you will jungle is when the lane is not safe.
Don't forget that DotA should be played objectively, get towers, roshan, rax, throne, etc. When enemy team is busy.
This is the shortest summary I can think of how you should play carry lol.
