Is that dire thing true? I've noticed I have more dire games and when I'm on dire I usually don't even get mid if I first pick and end up having to jungle.

You also need to consider that valve thinks 4.1*4 + 7 = 6 + 4.4*4 EleGiggle

You either play mid your entire life or que EUE/EUW which is much better and the ping isn't even that bad

I think getting more Dire games than Radiant is a kind of subtle forced 50%. In the last 6 months I've been on Dire 54% of the time.

But is it really harder to win on dire? I mean it gives you a disadvantage? How exactly dire is a worse side of the map?

Mid Dire is shittier than mid Radiant. One glaring example is how the mid Radiant ramp is closer to tower range but mid Dire ramp is further from tower.

dire is imo fucking awful

the only benefit is you can pull/farm the large camp closest to safelane, and offlaners often fuck with that anyway
