Is drum of endurance > Necromonicon viable? And can Venge be played mid?

Necromonicon can be viable if your team needs that true sight and extra creeps to help pushing, especially when you play a support Vengeful Spirit. Getting it as 3rd item after a Drum is fine, provided you have that gold income, or you might want to switch the priorities.

Playing her as mid is okay, especially when the enemy mid hero is something that is easy to die early on (e.g.: Shadow Fiend). The downside is that her attack range is not as good as many other mid heroes, and can't rely on skills to grab last hits. If she has to run, she can only run so fast without the help of skills. That being said, she is an easy target to be ganked as well. Her aura is also troublesome as it will push the lane out. Level 1 aura is still fine since you can compensate by actively denying your creeps once they drop below 50%, but can still be pushed away if your enemy mid hero does well.

Core venge? Drums are okay, but necronomicon is mostly out of place. Support venge? Good luck getting lvl 3 necronomicon at a point where it's relevant.

Literally any hero can be played mid, depending on how bad your opponents are. The nice thing about venge mid is that if you have a support rotate, you'll generally have more disables, since it's likely the support will have one as well, aside from that, there are no redeeming factors, you're barely ranged, can't trade with most popular mids, can't really burst anyone down and you have no wave clear/really good base damage to be able to contest the lane really well. But in pubs, and especially normal skill, anything can work, a friend of mine lost mid as QoP against Venge, and that Venge came to my lane @ 12th minute with treads deso.
