skill difference between players in 1-3k are huge, you can play with decent players against complete trashes which results in stomp matches
above 4k thats where things balance a little. Players start to act alot more like their mmr
It's not skill difference at all actually, it's because they are all so bad, the hero picks matter A LOT. Like almost more than anything else. When grinding mmr people will say hero doesn't matter, pick any hero, and that's true, but for average players not grinding mmr the heroes matter a ton. Also matters where/how they play them, like offlane axe vs passive jungle axe. It's high variance, he either rolls through a match snowballing or gets behind and sucks all game.
Being close in skill means teams with specific timings also don't do well. If you have a late game team that in a pro match could start 5-20 and still be super close and win at the end with farm, a pub team won't ever pull that off. Or a split push team or anything other than amass a gold lead. Rat dota usually means 1 guy in pubs hitting the rax while other team is trying to push high ground. It's never a team strat.
Also cus skill is so close any small advantage ends up snowballing. Like when a PA barely kills opposing mid and starts 2-0, when it could've easily been 0-2 if not for an extra miss against her blur or something, that advantage can quickly lead to a 12-1 PA that stomps the game. Is that player really that good? No, they're just on a snowballing hero.
It's also just kind of the nature of dota.
cause below 4k is 100% yolo, they play dota just like playing street fight or mortal combat, jsut fight pres buttons, 0 strategy in a strategy game lol.

Either team always gets stomped, only 1 out of my past 10(?) games wasn't a complete beatdown, this shit isn't fun
