Or you need to have luck in All Random mode that players you will get knows how to play there heroes (decently at least) and opponents get crappy non-counter to yours and/or suck at them. I have beaten full party players in solo q, it is possible, but you need skill and some luck as well in this MM -.-
It all hinges on that word "work". The operative question is: What is matchmaking trying to accomplish?
Matchmaking could be set up with the objective of getting every game to have as small a range of skill and experience possible. Doing this comes at the cost of time spent waiting in the que and the freedom of choice of the players.
Instead Valve decided to minimize the time to find a match and allow maximum freedom of players to que as they wish. If you allow people to que with whoever they want then ensuring a small range of skill on both teams is impossible.
Suppose a group of 5 people que with 1 Bronze, 1 Silver, 1 Gold, 1 Platinum, 1 Diamond. Average score is between Gold and Silver. You could put them against a group of 5 high silvers and low golds...but it would be a stomp. The Diamond player would easily crush a solo lane against a player with half his rating. The Platinum and Gold player could easily prevent any serious advantage from coming from the bad plays of the Bronze and Silver players and would make a strong core for ganks and teamfights...it would be the typical pubstomp from dota 1.
If you match the same team against a group with a similar distribution of skill you get a "fair" outcome. Whoevers top players out perform their opposites will win. Whoevers feeders feed less will win. Everyone will be relevant and win rates will be close to 50% for everyone.
This set up still allows you, by choice to avoid games will low skilled players. You just que with 5 highly skilled players and you will get 5 highly skilled opponents.
If you don't have a group of 5 there is another option available. That is to wait longer. The search function starts looking for a small range of skill when you solo que, but since that is usually not available because 10 people in a small skill range simply do not all que up at the exact same second....the search broadens until it gets a match. IF you want no nubs in your game you can also get it by restarting the que every time it gets to 30 sec or 1 min or however paranoid you want to be about it. This will result in longer wait times. I am not sure how much longer, but it could be done.
The other alternative for avoiding 90% of idiots is just to queue CM only. It works since at lower levels, there are essentially zero CM games ever, so you get matched with people who can at least vaguely play the game pretty much all the time..
I see 2 problems with cm first of all captain slot is pretty random and 2nd due to invisible rating people usually dont know how good their captain is and its causes a lot of problems even before game starts

While im sitting at only 1 page of games as 'high' i gotta say, boy! i'm getting stomped HARD!!

Your attitude will help you to enjoy playing dota much more Ancient Creature. Most people play dota to have fun win or lose. Some people are very competitive by nature and have much more fun winning and improving. I really like how Valve has set up dota 2 to accommodate both groups of people.

I solo que and play with good friends but when i get to the top of normal bracket i will just always get invited by my noob friends. And they're ur friends so i wouldnt say no to them. At the end of like 6games i will be at the lowest tier where me with 200wins playing people of 8 wins and things like that. Just feel like i wont get anywhere if it continues.
One way you might try to deal with this Blitzfrog is to make a new tryhard account. Use your regular account to play with friends and have fun, try out heroes, builds, and rolls you don't know...and then use the tryhard account to play only your best heroes and see how high you can go.

Right Mapzor, but you are truly one of the top players who belong in Very High. This guy is just trying to get up into High so he can play against a bit tougher opponents and challenge himself to improve.
Just watch pro games, and u will improve, but it takes much time, and u won't achieve that much of progress until after u rly understand why they do this and that

The thing is there is no real way to meassure individual player skill in a 5v5 game as DotA.
You lose to things you have absolutely no influence on:
- Players leaving
- Players afking
- Players griefing
- Players feeding/failing so much not even the most feeded drow can save it
and I bet those games count towards your MMR as well.
This forces you to party up or pick heroes that are an almost guaranteed win.
After playing years of classic DotA with some LoL and HoN inbetween I grew tired of chainpicking my favorite winning heroes just to keep my rating/ratio up.
I'm not saying I belong into any of the higher brackets but the pool of bad people on normal is just so large it sometimes makes me cry.
Ps. ever since I started playing on US W/E exclusively instead of EU too matches felt a lot better
i think some games are just imbalance even though people of the same skill levels are put to match is because the system's way of arranging people is at flaw. even for equally rated players, the game will not be balanced when the system does not make an even distribution of roles in a team. say, the player pool has 4 people who are intending to play carry and are good at them. if they are stacked, their team will not function. some of them will be forced to play roles that they are not good at and are not motivated to play. good distribution is to arrange them 2 on 2. but at this moment there is no way the system is able to know this. so, the system has to be revamped to accomodate this. just add radiobuttons in the find match, asking for preferred roles in the next game. it is basically the same as the region and language options that are already there in the game.
also, they should not allow people to random in -ap games. random is just dump. if they are not going to remove it, they need to at least improve it. my suggestion is to make it able for players to choose they hero pool in which the -random will pick. it is really like managing your deck in card games. it is still random but is way more tactical.

Queuing Captains mode without a stack is no better than All pick... The captain is random, and I once got teamed with a captain called "Rage Quit".

Blame yourself not the system.
